Gregory James Aziz is one of the leading industrialists in North America. President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of National Steel Car, he has been called a “self-made man.” An impressive, even imposing, figure, he exudes the restless energy of a great cat. With a mane of white hair framing a ruggedly handsome face, he could easily be compared to a loin. In his standard white shirt with rolled-up sleeves, and with a preference for being called Greg Aziz, he a no-nonsense kind of guy. Gregory J. Aziz is a man who knows where he is going and just how he plans to get there.
Originally from London, Ontario, he graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in economics. After college, he went to work for a wholesale food business called Affiliated Foods. By the time he left Affiliated Foods, it had grown into one of the largest fresh food distributors in North America.
From Affiliated Foods, Aziz worked into investment banking in New York City. While in investment banking, he was able to arrange the purchase of National Steel Car (NSC) of Hamilton, Ontario. Founded in 1912, as Imperial Steel Car, NSC found its fortunes tied to the railroad industry in general. A powerhouse during the boom years of the railroads, NSC had slowly withered as the railroad industry declined.
Using the knowledge and experience he gained during his years in investment banking, Aziz was able to raise the millions of dollars in capital needed to expand and modernize National Steel Car. He did not just expand production capacity, but modernized research, development, and engineering. Greg Aziz is not satisfied solving the problems his customers face today, he demands the ability to anticipate the problems they will face in the future.
Of the more than twenty-thousand standards set by the ISO, an international, independent auditing, inspection, and watchdog agency, the only one requiring certification is the prestigious ISO 9001:2008. National Steel Car has been recertified as meeting ISO 9001:2008 standards every year for 18 years.
Aziz modestly deflects credit for these accomplishments unto “the outstanding commitment and integrity of our team members who take pride in building the best.” Visit This Link for more information.
